The Romans were among the first to settle in Lake Como, at the foot of the Alps in northern Italy. The poet Virgil called it “the greatest lake.” Famed composer Franz Liszt honeymooned here. George Clooney, Madonna and Richard Branson have lived there.

It is a place of natural beauty, historic ruins and pastel-hued villas. A spectacular area populated by accomplished people.

A chance to join their ranks has now presented itself with the listing of a pink villa wrapped by a flowering park in the town of Tremezzina. The home is the epitome of excellent taste with a modern flair.

It is new by ancient Roman standards, having been built in the early 1900s. The villa was restored in 2005 and renovated in 2019 so the interior is up to today’s standards for comfort and luxury. (The designer furnishings are included in the sale.)

The 10-bedroom, 10-bathroom main home unfolds over five levels. But not to worry: The nearly 11,000-square-foot (1,000-square-meter) home has an elevator to save time and effort, if not muscle development.

On the ground floor is a massive professional kitchen, decked out with all modern appliances. Nearby is a wine cellar, game room, laundry room, three bathrooms, gym and sleek heated indoor pool with changing rooms. Large windows illuminate the main floor, which overlooks the gardens.

A sweeping staircase links the ground floor to the first floor, which has a large living room and dining room that can seat 20. Views of the surrounding lake and countryside can be captured from a wraparound terrace–perfect for lounging or summer dinners.

The second floor has four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The primary suite is found on the third floor, along with two adjoining walk-in closets, two bathrooms, private balconies and a study. The fourth floor has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a terrace.

Unlike many other homes in the area, this one sits on an unusually large 1.3-hectare (3-plus acre) plot. The manicured lawns and gardens slope gracefully toward the lake. The villa grounds also house courts for tennis and football, a five-car garage and porter’s lodge.

The size and design of the villa make it ideal for hosting events and friends, and the abundance of land means that a portion could be dedicated to further development.

Tremezzina is on the western leg of Lake Como, almost directly across the water from the famous village of Bellagio, where glamorous residents and visitors join together at restaurants and wine bars. Shopping is possible but Milan—one of the great cities for chic shopping (as well as opera)—is just over an hour’s drive away.

Marina Rizzotto, a Forbes Global Properties Advertising Partner, is the listing agent for the property. The asking price is 15.95 million or about US $15.6 million.
