The necessary shift toward sheltering in place during the pandemic taught many of us the value of home, family and friends – and that solitude can be a comfort during difficult times. Many also learned that business can be conducted virtually from any location with a hot spot.
So why not take your home and work to a natural paradise with all the amenities, plus excellent internet speeds?
Hawaii is made up of more than 100 islands stretched over the North Pacific. Seven are inhabited, with most of the population living on Kauai, Oahu, Lanai and the Big Island of Hawaii. Each has its own distinct style.
Kauai is rightly known as the Garden Island for its lush, green mountains, thundering surf and wild waterfalls – many of them reached only by helicopter or hikes deep into the rainforest.
It’s the setting for a new beachfront property, now underway. The one-of-a-kind custom “butterfly house” has inverted roof lines that appear ready for takeoff.
Rather than intruding on nature, this artistic turn on a beach home connects to it through floor-to-ceiling windows along the kitchen, dining, living and primary suite areas. Floors are bleached oak. Decking is eco-friendly Accoya Wood. Winged roofs are made of recyclable copper alloy metal. Natural ambient light brightens the rooms.
Natural wood appears as a decorative accent throughout the 2,121 square feet of living space. The kitchen and dining area – large enough to seat 12 – are decked out with high-end appliances.
The three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home sits on 27,500 square feet of land fronted by a lawn leading to miles of sand. It is about 10 minutes from the small town of Hanalei and Hanalei Bay, made famous by its appearance in the film South Pacific.
Kauai has the international Lihue Airport, which also offers frequent regional flights to other islands.
