When I stepped inside this home I immediately felt like I was in the lobby of the Four Seasons in Seattle or New York. It’s welcoming and luxurious with this black and white palette that feels incredibly sophisticated and peaceful. The homeowners made changes to every surface, appliance and fixture over the past 2 1/2 years, transforming this home into the sleek, Modern masterpiece it is today. It’s a stunner. - Terry Sprague

From the white paint and stone accents of the exterior, it’s clear that clean lines and an uncluttered style are the design sense behind the transformation of this home. Step inside to the main floor and into an open and light-filled space perfect for entertaining friends and family. Stunning views down the valley of the Willamette River and its iconic bridges are showcased through the large, black-framed windows of the great room. Open the double sliding doors in the dining area and step onto the deck to get a bit closer to the lush greenery of the tall trees and treat yourself to a view of Mt. St. Helens and a glimpse of Mt. Hood. Enjoy warm summer evenings outside in the seating area or dine alfresco. Cable railings ensure that the views are unobstructed and the beauty of the Northwest can take center stage.

With the vibrant colors of nature as an ever-changing backdrop through the windows, the minimalist palette of black, white and shades of grey inside is a sleek contrast. From the grey-stained white oak floors to the crisp, white walls, everything is simplified and at the same time, elevated to a sophisticated, modern style. In the kitchen, the white lacquer cabinets extend to the ceiling, further enhancing the clean lines of the space. The countertops and island are topped with white quartz with a light grey veining that is echoed by the mosaic tile backsplash that has a slight silvery grey sheen. Mixing metals, from the backsplash, stainless steel appliances and gold hardware on the cabinets is another of the home’s design themes. The appliances themselves are all new and include a SubZero refrigerator, two wine coolers, a Miele range with eight burners and two ovens and two Miele dishwashers (one is located in the adjacent bar area.) The walk-in pantry is oversized and features a glimmering light fixture which is used in varying sizes throughout the home in often overlooked spaces like this pantry, the laundry room and in closets. This somewhat whimsical choice was born out of the desire to make every activity a bit more fun after the isolation of 2020 made us spend more time at home. So here you can enjoy a little bling while you’re looking for a snack.

Between the kitchen and living room is a flexible dining space that is as well-suited to weeknight meals as it is for dinner parties. A long bar with glass-front upper cabinets creates a fantastic serving area and beverage station with its sink and dishwasher. Windows on the bar side and double doors leading to the deck on the other side mean this space is flooded with light, even on grey days. The tall, 9.5 ft ceilings feature LED cans enabling multiple levels of lighting for just the right ambiance for every occasion.

The living room features a stunning black concrete washed finish on the ceiling height fireplace surround. As the light changes inside and out the different textures and shades on this functional art piece change as well making it a dynamic focal point for this end of the room. To the side of the fireplace is a bank of built-in cabinetry that can house electronics and a tv.

Glass balustrades line the staircase leading upstairs, keeping even this functional element minimalistic in style. At the top of the stairs is a wide landing that can be used as an office with the added bonus of sharing the fantastic view from the master suite when the doors are open. This is a flexible use space that could also function as a library or studio space. Step inside the master suite and take in the views from the living room from an even higher vantage point. At night the lights of the city will sparkle framed by the huge bay window in the bedroom. This soothing space is just the right size with space for a seating area near the double-sided fireplace shared with the ensuite bath. The bath is the complete spa experience with heated tile floors and a soothing neutral palette. A deep, freestanding soaking tub sits under a window and in front of the fireplace so you can watch the flames or the wind dancing in the treetops as you soak. The frameless glass walk-in shower is oversized with multiple heads and a gold linear drain in the floor. The walk-in closet has great storage features and that sparkly light fixture because everything should be an experience.

The door handles on the two additional upstairs bedrooms and throughout the home were changed to a shiny, modern chrome in keeping with the overall design. These bedrooms share a large hall bath with a tub/shower combination featuring a glass barn door. The bedrooms are spacious with large closets and enough room for double (or larger) beds.

Downstairs in the daylight basement is a fantastic family room that has a slightly more casual vibe than the living room but is no less sleek and sophisticated. Featuring the same treatment on the gas fireplace only in white, this room has a similar bank of built-in cabinetry to the right of the fireplace for electronics. The fire, just like its upstairs counterpart, is a rectangular box with a metallic interior and crystal-like fire glass that glitters in the light. The family room includes a bar with a beverage fridge, sink, plenty of cabinet space to store snacks and bar seating. Continue through to another flexible space that is currently in use as a home gym with a convenient full bath that is shared with the fourth bedroom. The lower level deck can be accessed from the fourth bedroom or the family room and is a perfect spot to enjoy year-round covered seating or even project a movie on the wall and have movies under the stars. A large basement storage area could be a possible wine cellar.

Designed for modern living with modern style, this home ticks every box. Tall ceilings and large windows make every space feel open and simple, sleek design provides an uncluttered backdrop for everyday life. Located in Lake Oswego’s Hallinan neighborhood, a two-minute drive or 10-minute walk will take you to Hallinan Elementary and Lakeridge Middle School is 10-minutes away.
