Bald Peak Ranch
Hillsboro, OR, USA
This is the experience of Bald Peak Ranch.
Escape from the city to a place that feels like a vacation retreat but it isn’t. It’s home and it’s close enough to everything - from the Moda Center and Portland Trailblazer games to Nike World Headquarters to OHSU to make your escape to this incredible, private, beautiful place every day.
Custom designed by architect Richard White of The WhiteHouse Collection and built by Delahunt Homes Residential Construction, this gated property was completed in 2008. The award-winning team started with the guest house because the homeowners were so anxious to move in and enjoy the spectacular five-mountain views from their slice of heaven. Perched on 38 acres, this home includes a 300-vine vineyard, large garden, pasture land and a world-class equestrian arena and barn.
This graciously designed home is warm and welcoming with wide-plank hickory floors and large windows framing the stunning views. It is a place where friends and family love to gather (and stay) to explore the forested grounds and visit the creek that trickles through the woods or maybe to help with wine-making when Pinot Noir 777 Clone grapes are ready for harvest.
The moment you step inside the grand front doors it’s clear that the sweeping view of the valley is the star of the design. Almost every room enjoys some of the best vantages of the Pacific Northwest and a front-row seat to the changing seasons. A light touch of European influence found in the broad arches and wrought iron light fixtures elevates the main floor which has also been freshly painted. As always, the kitchen is the heart of the space, drawing people together amidst its custom ceiling-height alder cabinetry and granite countertops. The two-level central island features a breakfast bar and a stepped-down workspace. Appliances include two Basco dishwashers, two sinks, two KitchenAid wall ovens and a six-burner Wolf cooktop with pot filler. The space also includes a casual seating area where people can relax and enjoy the ambiance.
Just off the kitchen is access to a fantastic covered outdoor kitchen and patio. Understandably, this has been the homeowner's favorite place to spend time year-round. A stone fireplace with a rustic mantle and an infrared heater coupled with an electric screen that traps the heat without blocking the view. The kitchen area includes a sink, beverage fridge and built-in Lynx grill with space for a mounted tv above. The patio extends out from the covered area to a large open-air terrace perfect for outdoor dining and entertaining. This area’s connection to the kitchen is ideal for hosting large groups that can also enjoy the artificial turf lawn and soothing sounds of the water feature. Pro tip: the back patio is the perfect spot to enjoy a spectacular sunrise behind the mountains.
The primary suite is conveniently located on the main floor and is a private and quiet retreat. The bedroom features a gas fireplace and a beautiful view of the back of the property. The luxurious ensuite bath features his and her bathrooms with heated floors and separate walk-in closets. The oversized walk-through shower is shared by both bathrooms. Her bath includes a deep soaking tub and a seated makeup vanity. His bath includes a urinal.
The living room is also on the main floor just off the foyer and formal dining room. These spaces have an elevated aesthetic perfect for special occasions, holidays and celebrations. The living room has a large gas fireplace and three large windows showcasing the view. A French door leads outside to the back patio, creating a great flow for indoor/outdoor entertaining throughout the home. The guest primary suite is located nearby and also includes access to the back patio for visitors to enjoy the sunrise and view. Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms that share a hall bath.
The oversized mud/laundry room is located off the kitchen and accesses the two-car garage attached to the home. The carriage house and additional garages are connected to the main house via a covered breezeway. The guest apartment is situated on the second floor and includes a fully outfitted kitchen and a great room with a gas fireplace and inviting balcony. Vaulted ceilings and large windows give the space an open, airy feel. The bedroom has a large closet and washer/dryer hookups. Downstairs are two oversized garages and a third extra-tall garage for RV or boat storage that is currently in use for winemaking with an attached fully-finished, temperature-controlled wine cellar with African mahogany cabinets and display shelves.
The barn and equestrian arena are beautifully finished and maintained. Considered by many to be the best barn in the area, the four horse stalls are heated and have individual fans and cameras. The barn also includes a wash stall with hot and cold water, a half-bath with a washer/dryer, hay storage, an office and a tack room. The attached 60-feet by 120-feet covered arena has quality footing and irrigation. A one-acre fully-fenced orchard grass pasture is just outside. A parking area alongside the barn includes RV hookups for water, power and sewer.
This home not only enjoys a gorgeous vantage point but also plentiful solar energy, delicious well water and a geothermal temperature control system. The solar array feeds the excess energy generated back into the electrical grid to offset energy costs. The well and geothermal system are also features that reduce the property’s carbon footprint and also reduce the expense of running the property. Additionally, a portion of the property is eligible for the tax benefits of a forest deferral. Numerous trails crisscross the forested portion of the property ready for horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking. A serene creek meanders through the property, creating a perfect spot to hang hammocks and enjoy the sound of the breeze through the tree branches.
A large garden area sits off the side of the driveway just inside the gates. A greenhouse, nine raised beds and a hoop house are fully irrigated as are the abundant, mature hibiscus bushes that line the driveway. The vineyard with 300 Pinot Noir vines is adjacent to the garden area and has produced enough grapes for the homeowners to bottle their own wine. The area’s soil is particularly good for grape growing.
