Step inside an architectural masterpiece redefining modern luxury, offering the rare harmony between refined design and breathtaking natural surroundings. Set on a sweeping 1.5-acre lot in the envied Skylands neighborhood of Lake Oswego, this 5-bedroom, 5.5-bath residence, originally built in 1974, underwent an extraordinary transformation between 2004 and 2006, led by the acclaimed Seattle-based E. Cobb Architects. Under the visionary hands of Eric Cobb and Josh Johns, this AIA award-winning team reimagined the home with a guiding intention: to honor the 180-degree views surrounding it, allowing nature to become part of every experience in this remarkable home.
Cobb and Johns refined their design’s core concept by listening to the site’s geometry and crafting an immersive wrap-around experience of the landscape. A highly custom steel and aluminum window wall spans the main level, dissolving the boundary between indoors and outdoors, creating the impression of a home with no walls at all. This dramatic glass faƧade frames uninterrupted vistas of the Willamette Valley’s sky, river, mountains, and verdant treetops, inviting them to fill the home with a sense of boundless openness. In this space, light flows effortlessly, and every glance reveals the beauty of the valley’s iconic skyline.
Inside, the modern interpretation of a Saltbox roofāan asymmetrical design with pitched sides of varying lengthsālends a distinct sense of expansiveness to the interior. The cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling contrasts warmly with the steel and glass structure, highlighting the home’s unique blend of organic texture and modern precision. Below lies a one-of-a-kind flooring system: radiant-heated steel plates. So distinctive that the installation required custom methods, this flooring brings literal warmth and understated luxury, setting the stage for the open, light-filled atmosphere that defines each room.
The renovation extended beyond the home’s interior, introducing a sleek pool and pool house surrounded by a lush lawn perfect for entertaining, adding a further dimension to this remarkable estate. Reoriented to embrace every angle of its surroundings, the home now features expanded pockets of space, creating unique moments and inviting flow between indoor and outdoor living areas. Every detail is a tribute to the view, an artful layering that allows the home to unfold in new ways with each experience.
The Main Level
The homeowners worked with Portland designers Megan Mille Design and Dyer Studio to refine the interior with a reimagined main floor primary suite where you can enjoy the view both outside from a private deck and inside from a broad bank of windows. The serene bedroom offers a sleek built-in fir headboard with floating bedside tables and a gas fireplace with a steel surround. The deluxe ensuite bath features Aurora Blue Quartzite slabs from Brazil and an open, wet room design. The Duravit soaking tub is extra large and has a prime yet private location overlooking the pool. Clad in white rectangular tile installed in a vertical grid, the shower includes three heads and a hand-held wand. A ceiling-to-floor tube shelving unit perfect for moisture-loving plants divides the wet room from the rest of the bathroom. Aurora Blue Quartzite is continued in back to back vanities with vessel sinks beautifully illuminated by linear sconces and light-up mirrors hanging above. Sleek closets and an adjacent dressing room offer ample storage space.Ā
