Standing in the back yard of this stunning lake front home on West Bay of Oswego Lake, I’m immediately reminded of summer vacations spent with my family in The Hamptons. The house has that nostalgic, classic style with multiple levels of decks and a flat lawn perfect for easy living and entertaining with a spectacular view of the water. It’s the perfect combination of historic 1920s details and 2021 living with a fantastic layout for indoor/outdoor living. - Terry Sprague From the curb, this home looks like a classic lake cottage with a steep gable roof and low stone walls framing the path to the front door but step inside to so much more. Originally built in the 1920s, this home which opens into three levels of casually elegant indoor/outdoor living is a lovingly renewed Hamptons style waterfront destination. Located on the quiet and picturesque West Bay of Oswego Lake, this home’s outdoor atmosphere is reminiscent of languid afternoons filled with sunshine and a peaceful breeze without a to-do list or schedule in sight. The West Bay is the peaceful and serene section of the lake where the quiet lapping of the water on the shore is the daily soundtrack. With easy access to the main lake, the West Bay enjoys the best of both worlds - waterskiing and wakeboarding around the corner with the calm waters of the bay as your back yard where you can paddleboard and kayak the smooth water. Inside, the homeowners took the best of the 1920s architectural elements including the original oak floors, built-ins, bricks, and millwork, restored it and brought it into the 2020s with a fresh coat of crisp, white paint throughout. The original character shines through 100 years later to be appreciated and enjoyed by another generation. The layout features large rooms with enough separation to make them individual spaces but enough blending to provide elements of an open floorplan. From the front door, step inside the formal living room where a gas and wood-burning fireplace features an original brick surround and a wide traditional mantle. Restored built-in shelves flank the entrance to the formal dining room which is an amazing light-filled space with large windows and French doors on three sides. The doors open to the deck and its stunning 180-degree view of the bay creating a perfect flow for indoor/outdoor entertaining. Even with the doors closed, the view from the dining room features an incredible view of the bay framed by the tall trees of the backyard. Also just off the living room is a comfortable sunroom that also features French doors leading out to the deck. The south-facing space is the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the water. A large picture window on one end of the sunroom frames a lush green view of the mature landscape of the backyard. These three rooms combine to create a wonderful entertaining space that is as perfect for special occasions and holidays as it is for an informal glass of wine on a Wednesday. The kitchen is a fantastic gathering spot with a huge central island with space for seating, serving, meal prep and a deep sink. The honed granite countertops provide a stylish and durable surface for all the activities that take place in a busy kitchen. Viking appliances including a microwave and dishwasher in the island, a four-burner range and a refrigerator bring a touch of modern to the classically styled space. The breakfast nook includes a beadboard window seat, another vintage built-in cabinet and a convenient door leading out to the deck for easy access for grilling or enjoying the view. Outside, two levels of decks are connected by an outdoor spiral staircase. There is ample room for multiple seating and dining areas to enjoy the view of the yard and lake from both levels. Stairs lead down from the lower deck to the lawn where the surrounding landscaping was inspired by an English garden. The lawn with its huge Weeping Willow has hosted dinner parties and croquet matches, quiet picnics, water balloon wars and undoubtedly much more over the past 100 years. The covered boat slip includes a boat lift and a waterside swim deck as well as space to store kayaks and SUP boards for easy access to the water. The property also includes a grandfathered in pump house that draws water from the lake for irrigation purposes The home’s second level includes a fantastic den with a built-in drop-down desk, gas fireplace and built-in bookshelves. French doors lead out to a private deck with a gorgeous lake view making this a great spot to work indoors and out. Just down the hall is a large guest bedroom with a huge walk-in closet. This bedroom is conveniently close to the upstairs laundry room and the recently remodeled hall bath. The luxurious primary suite features tall, sloped ceilings and a fantastic window seat with a lake view. Step outside to the large private patio for another 180-degree view of the water. The ensuite bath was also recently remodeled by Metke Remodeling & Luxury Homes. The new bath has a stunning design with a gorgeous freestanding tub that sits under large windows offering a view of the bay and providing the room with lovely natural light. The frameless glass shower is not only seamless with one large piece of glass creating the wall but also curbless for ease of use. The shower includes two shower heads including a rain head. Lighted mirrors over the vanity give the space an elevated, luxury hotel suite feel. The daylight basement opens out to the lower deck, extending the indoor/outdoor living and entertaining space. The fabulous family room features a gas fireplace with crisp white, painted bricks and a broad mantel as well as a full bar complete with brass foot rail and space to sit. Behind the bar is a mini range, beverage fridge, microwave, sink and storage for everything you need for entertaining. There is room for a games table between the bar and pool table room which also includes a built-in bunk perfect for lounging or sleepovers. A large bedroom with its own entrance and nearby bath is also located on this level. This space is ideal for guests or multi-generational living when coupled with the family room’s kitchenette. Finally, the basement includes a laundry room with an extra refrigerator and a large storage space that could be converted into a wine cellar. This West Bay home is an incredible combination of a spectacular waterfront location, renewed vintage detail and modern amenities. A home that blends things like a luxurious walk-in shower but also 100-year-old floors and woodwork is truly something special.
