Serpentine Pavilion 2025

It’s one of architecture’s most coveted commissions. The annual unveiling of the temporary Serpentine Pavilion in London’s Hyde Park is never just about that year’s invited architect’s vision. It’s about capturing a moment, exploring larger themes and inviting public interaction, reaction, contemplation. This year’s light- and air-filled structure, A Capsule in Time, by Bangladeshi-based Marina Tabassum Architects, has been described as a meditation on climate and community. Built around a central gingko tree, a delicate yet resilient, climate-resistant species.
Bread & Heart Festival
Tirana, Albania
June 5-8, 2025
The inaugural edition of the Albanian capital’s Bread & Heart Festival is a forum not only for celebrating the country’s open-hearted hospitality, but also for 150 international architects and their guests to come together in talks, panels and dinners to discuss Prime Minister Edi Rama’s vision for transforming Tirana’s skyline. Innovative new towers have been sprouting up over the past decade, and the city’s first true luxury residential apartments are being created by the likes of Italy’s Stefano Boeri Architetti, whose Tirana version of Milan’s groundbreaking Bosco Verticale has taken root in the city center with 3,200 plants and shrubs and 145 trees.
Sydney Film Festival

The 72nd Sydney Film Festival lifts the curtain on 201 films from 70 countries, with 12 in official competition and 17 world premieres. Hotly anticipated is The End (2024), director Joshua Oppenheimer’s “apocalyptic musical” starring the mercurial Tilda Swinton. But Sydneysiders will be keeping an eye on the screen for Australia’s many fine features and documentaries, including Bringing His Spirit Home, in competition for the First Nations Award.
World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025

Italy hosts the prestigious restaurant-industry event for the first time, with talks, panels, chef-led feasts and of course – the reason everyone turns up with a spare gown or dinner jacket – the awards. This year’s list of pre-announced special awards winners includes chef Mindy Woods, the first Australian recipient of the Champions of Change award for her work preserving and promoting indigenous culture through food.
