John Henderson

Born in New Canaan, Connecticut and raised there until the age of 12, my family moved to Montecito in 1963. I attended grammar school at Mt. Carmel in Montecito, followed by Bishop Garcia Diego High School in Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara City College and St. Mary’s College in Orinda, California. In addition to the Liberal Arts, I majored in Spanish and French.

Always fascinated with homes and architecture, I became a journeyman carpenter in the early 1970’s and worked with a local architectural firm’s (Warner & Gray) construction crew building custom homes in Montecito. From foundation to finish, I loved it all, but I didn’t want to do it for the rest of my life. As it ultimately became time for me to find a home for myself I began working with my favorite realtor, Wm. P.R. Smith, who convinced me that selling real estate was something that I would not only enjoy, but would do well. He pointed out that my construction knowledge would greatly benefit my clients, as it would be easier to determine the integrity of a home for a buyer, and size up a seller’s home as well. This culminated in my decision to enter the real estate profession in 1979.

Having represented hundreds of buyers and sellers from all walks of life, my areas of expertise encompass all price ranges of estates, homes, land and condos in Montecito, Santa Barbara, Goleta, Summerland and Carpinteria.

In addition to my dedication to raising a family I spend my leisure time enjoying several recreational sports and traveling. I have been a member of the Coral Casino Beach and Cabana Club for 35 years, served on its board for over 12 years, and I enjoy ocean swimming, surfing, tennis, bicycling and alpine skiing. My travels abroad have enhanced my appreciation and study of all types of architecture and include extensive travels throughout France and Italy, most of Western Europe, Mexico, Central America, Hawaii, and Japan.
